Marine Species Acoustic Data Analyst

Position Overview:
CASE seeks a Marine Species Acoustic Data Analyst to an upcoming requirement for NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) Protected Species Branch (PSB). The role involves analyzing passive and active acoustic data to understand the distribution, behavior, and ecology of marine mammals and fish, as well as assessing the impact of human-produced sounds.

Location: Remote/Woods Hole, MA, or other Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) locations

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze passive acoustic data (archival and real-time) to assess marine life and anthropogenic sound sources.

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve automated acoustic detection methods.

  • Integrate and analyze visual, oceanographic, and acoustic datasets.

  • Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and conference presentations.

  • Support field operations for passive acoustic data collection.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (BS), Master’s (MS), or Doctorate (PhD) in an environmental science-related field.

  • Proficiency with acoustic analysis software (e.g., Raven, Pamguard, Triton).

  • Experience in marine acoustic research, including data collection and analysis.

  • Strong technical and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deep understanding of species and ecosystems along the northern US continental shelf.

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies related to threatened and endangered species (ESA, MMPA, NEPA).

  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams or contributing to collaborative research projects.

  • Proven track record of publications or contributions to peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Work Schedule and Requirements:
This is a full time role, fully remote, working with the NOAA Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC).
